70 years old school photos found
THIS week’s front page photograph and the two on this page have been sent to us by Linda Lee-lambert of Rowley Regis, who recently rediscovered them. They originally belonged to her uncle, the late Leslie Hillman.
Linda writes, “The first one is of my Uncle at school in the football team (1948/1949) at the school that he went to in Blackheath opposite St Paul’s Church – it is now flats. I don’t know the name of the school, it could have been named St Paul’s School.
“My uncle is the one at the back on the left hand side with black hair. Perhaps somebody on this photo may recognise themselves or my uncle.”
Lads
On the back of the picture are written the boys’ names. The teacher is Mr J.M. Dentith and the lads on the back row, from left, are: L. Hillman, J. Siviter, M. Lee, F. Ast, P. Mansell and C. Willetts.
Sitting at the front are: P. Grove, G. Grove, M. Goodwin, R. Underhill, R. Jones, C. Taylor and Tom Jackson.
Regarding our front page picture, Linda writes, “The other one is of again the same school and my uncle is sitting on the front on the floor with his legs crossed – maybe again somebody might recognise him or themselves. I am not sure of the year, it may be 1946/47.”
Finally, we have the picture below: “The last one is of my grandparents (Leslie’s mom and dad) Emma Hillman and John Henry Hillman. It looks like they have been on a holiday at Paignton – they used to go on a lot of holidays and day trips with Fields Coaches,a local firm as it was then.”
