Bus bosses enjoy their annual dinner

WE would like to thank J.P. Addenbrook­e of Solihull for sending to us this fine photograph from around 65 years ago.

He tells us, “The publicatio­n of the MEB staff photo in Bugle 1481 – with my dad in there somewhere – has prompted me to send you this photo, also taken in the mid 1950s.

“It shows the Midland Red Bearwood Head Office Traffic Department at an annual dinner at the King’s Highway, Quinton.”

Mr Addenbrook­e has done an excellent job in naming as many of the men in the photograph as he can, as well as detailing their jobs or the area of the Midland Red network that they were responsibl­e for.

We shall start with the five men facing the camera. They were, from left: P. Smith (Vehicle Allocation Officer), R. Brandon (Traffic Manager), R.K. Cope (Deputy Traffic Manager), Jock Dalziel (Time Tables), and (Express Service Supervisor).

On the left hand side, on the outside of the table, from the rear we have: C. Baker (Route Mileage), L. Wesley (Tours), R. Field (Birmingham Booking Office), D. Smith (Birmingham Office), B. Sabell (Worcester and Hereford), L. Baber (guest for the evening, a printer), unknown, G. Baker (Council Liaison), Mr Smart (guest, printer), B. Matty (Shropshire), and P. O’neill (Head Cashier).

Again, on the left hand side, this time on the inside of the table, from the back are: E. Woodhouse (Bromsgrove), unknown, unknown, J. Birch (Central Schedules), L. Hutchings (Nuneaton), G. Marchant (Sutton and Tamworth), D. Jones (Hinckley), and E. Best (Rugby).

Right hand side, on the inside, starting from the back we have: D. Woodhouse (Licensing), M. Rourke (Black Country), unknown, R. Tedcastle, E. Dyas, A. Jarvie (Black Country), J. Bourton (Leamington), M. Pace (Redditch), B. Jackson and W. Willingsle­y.

Finally, on the right outside of the group, from the
