Bad weather halts weekly rinks night

Wet weather put paid to Friday’s usual rinks night at Blairgowri­e Bowling Club.

The club’s ladies side did, however, manage a friendly against Longforgan on June 9, losing 26-23.

Scores, Blairgowri­e skips first, were: E Reid 9, C McLean 18; B Falconer 14, J Givens 8.

Blairgowri­e were also in action against Alyth in a home friendly on June 11.

A club spokespers­on described the fixture as a great afternoon – despite the uncertain weather – which eventually saw the hosts win 100-78.

Scores, Blairgowri­e skips first, were: W Duncan 11, C Milne 16; L Reeves 30, F Robertson 11; W Fairbairn 17, R Gow 17; B Rogerson 20, Isobel Fotheringh­am 18; D Campbell 22, B Martin 16.

Elsewhere, the weekly club lottery now stands at £300.

There were no winners last week. The numbers were 3, 4, 10 and 17.

Rattray

Congratula­tions have been expressed to the gents’section, who won the‘top ten’competitio­n – played annually between clubs in Perthshire and consisting of singles, pairs, triples and fours matches.

Meanwhile, Rattray hosted the Edinburgh and Leith Ex-Presidents’ Associatio­n, who made Rattray BC their base over the past week.

They played daily in the morning at the green and then played friendly games against various other clubs in the afternoon and evening.

They concluded their week with a friendly game against Rattray on Saturday, which the hosts won 87-72.

Results, Rattray skips first, were: J Watson 17, T Flynn 7; I Brogan 13, I Sutherland 14; A Grant 12, A McKay 19; K Nicholson 12, R McGuinness 11; G Campbell 19, G Waddell 11; N Nicholson 14, T Hogg 10.

Junior coaching sessions have re-started and take place on Monday nights from 6.30pm.

Coaching is free and bowls are provided. Anyone heading along is asked to wear plimsoles.
