Planning ahead for the future
The findings of a wide-ranging report looking at ways of revitalising Blairgowrie and Rattray town centre are to be discussed at an open meeting from 7pm on Wednesday this week in the town hall.
The £32,000 charrette process - which has been organised by Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council in collaboration with Perth and Kinross Council - got under way earlier this year with a four-day consultation event and the appointed consultants have now published the results of their study.
Areas for improvement identified include improving public meeting and gathering places, creating a town theme or brand, improving signage, creating a more pedestrian friendly environment, reviewing parking, tackling dog fouling and littering and constructing two new foot bridges over the Ericht to improve access between Blairgowrie and Rattray.
Other suggestions included looking at vacant, derelict and under-used premises, and developing established events such as Braemar Day, the book festival, and the Highland Games.
The report also proposes working closely with PKC to ensure that facilities in the town match the growth in population it is currently experiencing and to encourage businesses to locate in the town.
