Thought-provoking play all set for the Fringe

-

Youngsters from Blairgowrie-based Scrap Happy Theatre Group are performing in a musical that looks at various ways in which alcohol can impact on people ... writes Clare Damodaran.

The production - Drink! The Musical - has been written by the group’s Claire Bee alongside residents of Dundee alcohol recovery unit Jericho House, some of whom also star in the show.

The show made its debut last year with performances in Dundee and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, receiving rave reviews, and is back again for 2016.

This year, a few changes have been made to the production, includng some new cast members, but the live music, catchy songs and thoughtprovoking moments are still an integral part of the story.

The young people from Scrap Happy are Finlay Trotter, Ben Trotter, Lisa Knowles, Kieren Robertson, Nicole Law, Beth Duncan, Lauren Robertson and Matthew Robertson

Daniel Duncan, one of the adult members of the group, will be providing technical support.

Drink! The Musical will be at the Marrayat Hall in Dundee this Thursday, June 30 at 7pm. Tickets £8 (£6 concessions) from www. dundeebox.co.uk.

It will also be performed in Edinburgh for an extended seven-day run from August 8-14.

All shows are at 1.20pm at the Sweet Grassmarket venue. Tickets are £8 (£6 concessions) and can be purchased from www.edfringe.com.

Another Scrap Happy alumni, James Beck, who recently graduated with a BA in acting and contemporary theatre from East 15 drama school in the University of Essex, is also involved in a show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer.

James is working with the Fat Rascal Theatre company on the music for a show called BUZZ: A New Musical, which won the 2016 Stella Wilkie Award and was shortlisted for the Les Enfants Terribles Award.

The show starts its month-long run on August 5 and finishes on August 27.

Performances start at 8.45pm each night at the Greenside venue on Infirmary Street. Tickets are £10 or £8 for concessions. It is described as being suitable for those aged 16 and over.
