Market day success

-

A number of stalls could be perused in the Wellmeadow as Blairgowrie community market returned on Saturday.

Stall-holders selling a range of local produce, hand crafted items and services included regular favourites CS Chalmers and Son Vegetables, Tuff Duck hand painted glass, Arbroath Quality Fish, Gourmet Dog Treats, Leo Designs, the award-winning Allan’s Chilli Products and Alison’s Kitchen with their range of gluten free treats.

Another award-winner, Perthshire’s Ann Davidson Butchers, was also back promoting a range of steak pies, lorne sausages, beefburgers and black puddings.

Blairgowrie’s Wee Coffee Shop and Rosemount Care Home both reported a brisk trade selling fresh baking and cakes.

And new for this month was Shoshannah Webb, from Mysterious Worlds, with her jewellery and photo prints.

She said:“This is my first season at Blairgowrie community market and I really like it. It’s a great wee market and a good way for me to introduce my products to people.”

Shirley McGregor ran a pop-up art studio at the market offering waterclour workshops for children aged between five and 12-years-old.

She explained:“This idea is that parents have time to browse the stalls or go for a coffee while their children experiment with watercolours. I’m a firm believer in the therapeutic qualities of art and the opportunity to explore that it gives children can be hugely beneficial.”

Young people from the Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD) help set up the market every month and were on hand throughout the day to help visitors and to run the Wellmeadow Cafe stall, a social enterprise selling a variety of scones and delicious chocolate fudge.

Volunteers from Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council were also at the market. Issues raised by concerned citizens this month included the possible introduction of a one-way system along Woodlands Road and the proposals for a development of over 200 houses on Glenalmond Road in Rattray.
