Busy finish to the year as Players take to stage

-

Blairgowrie Players are staging several events in the latter half of the year ... writes Johnathon Menzies.

The latest in the popular amateur dramatics group’s series of murder mysteries will be presented at Blairgowrie Town Hall on Friday, September 16.

Tickets for the show titled ‘The Mystery of Talbot Manor’ are to be made available shortly from the Music Box on the town’s Allan Street.

These evenings have become a regular feature from the Players, where patrons are urged to go along to try out their deductive powers.

Sleuths should not be fooled into relying on the fact they may have seen the Players perform this production previously – and a spokesperson for the group revealed there will be a different culprit this time around.

The following month, meanwhile, the Town Hall will again be the venue as the Players entertain with what’s been described as an “unusual” version of the ever-popular classic ‘Whisky Galore!’ on Sunday, October 9, as part of east Perthshire literary showcase, the BOOKMARK Festival.

The spokesperson continued: “With a new film version about to be released, with all the grand locations and effects on a lavish scale, the Players’ version takes place in the 1950s on a limited budget and homemade effects – however, the story remains essentially the same.”

Tickets have been priced at £10, which includes refreshments, and are available now from the One Voice office in Upper Mill Street, the Card Gallery on Allan Street or at the door. Curtain up is 2pm.

Elsewhere, the Players’ Christmas panto, ‘A Christmas Carol’, will take place in the Town Hall from December 7-9 at 7pm and December 10 and 11 at 2pm.

• Away from the stage, on Friday, August 5, Blairgowrie Players are hosting a quiz night in Blairgowrie Town Hall from 7.30pm, with organisers promising that some top prizes are up for grabs.

Tickets are £12 for a table of four or £3 per person. The are available from the Card Gallery on 01250 876444, by sending an email to blairplayers@btinternet.com, or at the door. Bring own refreshments.

In addition, the group will host a table sale in the Town Hall on October 22.

Anyone wanting to book a table, or for more information, should contact Kay McNab by calling 01250 873753.
