Red carpet is rolled out for the talented P7

- Clare Damodaran

Primary seven pupils from Rattray Primary School pulled out all the stops for their end of term prom recently.

The youngsters all looked fabulous in their suits, kilts and frocks at the annual celebratory event, held in the Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie.

And the 17 pupils from Rattray Primary School were joined by three primary seven pupils from Kirkmichael Primary School for their big night, as well as teachers and support staff from both schools and other members of the community who have worked with the pupils.

Those gathered enjoyed a meal followed by an awards presentation – complete with its very own red carpet – and a dance.

P7 teacher Elizabeth Strachan praised the pupils for all their hard work throughout the year.

She said: “I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best of luck for the future.

“I have had the honour of teaching you this year and it has been an absolute pleasure – you have been a super class.”

Mrs Strachan and head teacher, Lyn Boxall, then went on to present the class with awards for their entrepreneurship project, which this year saw an investment of £50 pay enormous dividends as the pupils developed various business ideas.

Innes Robb made £29 from his business, Elemental Eggs, which sold organic eggs. Aaron Adie’s Bookmarks the Spot sold custommade bookmarks and made £49.21, £20 of which Aaron donated to Cancer Research UK.

The Polish Bakers made £46.56, CJ’s Diner made £32.65 and Jamie Watson’s Cakey Bakey Do made £48.37.

Jasmin McNaughton-Jones made a very impressive £225 with McNaughton’s Macaroons, using a closely guarded secret family recipe to make more than100 bags of macaroons.

She donated £100 to the charity Young Carers, a cause very close to her heart.

Elspeth McClement and Lexie Tolmie made an incredible £306.45 from their business Sugar Rush, and donated £200 to the Linda Grant School of Dance.

Fruit Buzz, which sold smoothies and fresh fruit, was the brainchild of Cole Arnold and David McInytre, made £163.14, £50 of which they donated to the Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD) as a token of their gratitude for all SCYD’s help with the go-karting project the pupils were involved in earlier in the year.

Niamh Bodle and Eve Campbell made £104 from their cleaning company, Cleaning In and Out, and Amy Townsley and Madison Macauley’s Bakery made £26.48.

Evie’s Beauty Parlour made £61.50, taking the total amount of money the children made to an amazing £1121.36.

Mrs Strachan said: “The children all came up with a business plan, put it place and it was really interesting to watch them grow in confidence.

“I couldn’t believe the amount of money they raised, they all did fantastically well and have learned a great deal.

“I am sure Scotland has got some budding entrepreneurs here!”
