Church Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Tom Tait. Readings, by David Chinn, were from Psalm 84 and Mark ch 13, v 1-13. Rev Tait considered that Psalm 84 was the prayer of a radiantly happy man as he was clearly content with the thought of living and working in God’s temple. He had come on a pilgrimage, presumably to Jerusalem, to experience the presence of God in his temple, to admire the splendour of the building and take in the atmosphere of the place shared with his fellow pilgrims and the residents of the city. However, the building is far less important than the occupant for, as Jesus stated in ch 13 of Mark’s gospel, faith in God will survive the total collapse of a temple. Also, Revelations states there is no need for a temple as God is all pervading and his presence is everywhere. For Christians, as they travel on their own pilgrimage through life, all they need to know is that buildings do not make a ‘church’ for the church exists wherever God and the presence of Jesus Christ is to be found. Austin Wilkie, organist, played Short Prelude and Fugue in F Major (JS Bach), Diapason Movement in F (William Walond), Fughetta in A (C Burney) and Recessional Voluntary No 3 in G (T Pattison). The East Perthshire Action of Churches Together in Scotland annual songs of praise service will be in the Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie at 3pm on Sunday this week.
