Young footballers hone skills at camp
Thirty talented youngsters from Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Football Club (BRCFC) enjoyed Box Soccer sessions last week.
The five-day long camp, which took place at the training pitches at Piggy Lane, was organised by Bruce Whytock, a coach with the 2007 youth team, in conjunction with local Box Soccer coaches.
The youngsters, aged from six to 11-years-old, learned a range of new skills and honed existing talent in the sessions, designed to increase contact time with the ball.
The coaching covered various aspects of technical development, building on the techniques the players are already using.
And those involved say that the summer camp has been such a success that they are keen to expand and increase the programme and run it again in October and the spring.
BRCFC chair Sandy Thomson, said:“This has been a great opportunity for the youngsters to enhance and further develop their skills.
“It takes them to the next level of playing and gives them an experience of something a little bit different to their usual training.
“I would like to thank Bruce for organising the camp. It has been very worthwhile. And I would also like to thank Box Soccer for their involvement and am looking forward to working with them again on similar camps in the future.”
Box Soccer coach Jamie Reynolds added: “It’s great to be working with the club on this initiative. It is one of the first camps we have done in Perthshire and it has been great - the facilities and set up here are really good.
“Box Soccer is quite a difficult programme, with quite intensive sessions.
“Most of the kids had done Box Soccer before but they were brilliant and have been a real credit to the club.”
