Hub plans for old Coupar Angus surgery

-

A public drop-in session is being held in Coupar Angus on Friday this week to look at the possibility of placing the town’s former doctors’ surgery into community ownership.

The centrally-located building is currently empty having recently been vacated by the local mental health team, now based in Blairgowrie.

Those behind the idea believe that the building is an ideal location for a community hub, which would be open to local residents in the surrounding area.

A spokesperson said: “With adequate car parking, and located a short distance from local bus stops, the building is easily accessible and suited to become a ‘Strathmore Community Hub’.

“As a single storey building housing smaller, comfortable rooms, it is an ideal location for all smaller groups who need somewhere to meet at an affordable cost.

“It will allow these groups to provide a variety of activities and promote a healthy society and also has access for the less able.

“It is hoped that the facilities could also include displays of local art and craft as well as providing a home for the Strathmore Mens Shed workshop and even a community cafe.”

The drop-in session takes place in the Talbot Hall in Trades Lane on September 2 from noon until 6pm.

Everyone is welcome.
