There was a strong sheep section at Strathardl­e Agricultur­al Show in Kirkmichae­l on Saturday.

The prime lamb championsh­ip was again won by David and Elizabeth Stewart, Mains of Dalrulzion, Blacklunan­s, with two lambs by a home-bred Beltex tup.

Mains of Dalrulzion also showed the reserve pair from similar breeding.

The judge for the day was Alex Paul, Ballingall Mill, Leslie. Trophy winners were as follows: Best pair of Suffolk cross lambs, BF dam (Bibby Shield) - Wester Bleaton.

Best pair of cross lambs (Angus Marts Trophy) - Mains of Dalrulzion.

Best pair of prime lambs, Blackface dam (Robertson Trophy) - Cally Estate.

Best pair of Blackface wedder lambs (Chick Ferguson Rosebowl) - Folda.

Supreme Championsh­ip in prime lamb classes (MacDougall Trophy) - David and Elizabeth Stewart, Mains of Dalrulzion, with their pair of home-bred Beltex. Reserve - Mains of Dalrulzion with another pair of home-bred Beltex.

Pair of Suffolk cross lambs, mule dam - 1 Wester Bleaton; 2 and 3 Laighwood. Pair of Suffolk cross lambs, any dam under 80kg - 1 and 2 Mains of Dalrulzion; 3 Runavey. Pair of Suffolk cross lambs, any dam over 80kg - 1 and 3 Laighwood; 2 Mains of Dalrulzion. Pair of lambs, any other breed under 80kg - 1, 2, 3 Mains of Dalrulzion. Pair of lambs, any other breed over 80kg - 1, 2, 3 Mains of Dalrulzion.

CROSS BREEDING SHEEP

The cross breeding sheep championsh­ip and reserve were also won by Mains of Dalrulzion.

Their champion was a Texel cross ewe by a Scrogtonhe­ad sire out of a three-quarter Texel quarter Cheviot ewe. Their reserve was a gimmer of similar breeding.

The judge was Michael Rattray, of Westpark, Auchterard­er. Trophy winners were as follows: Best pair of cross ewes (Wester Bleaton Trophy) - Mains of Dalrulzion with a Beltex cross home bred pair.

Best pair of mule ewe lambs (Balvarran Cup) - Folda.

Cross female champion (Balgairn Cup) Mains of Dalrulzion with their ewe. Reserve - Mains of Dalrulzion with their gimmer.

Pair of mule ewe lambs - 1 Folda; 2 and 3 Ashintully. Pair of cross ewe lambs any other breed, judged for breeding purposes - 1 Mains of Dalrulzion; 2 Elizabeth Stewart; 3 Ardlebank. Pair of cross ewes, any cross, nursed as a lamb this year, judged for breeding purposes - 1 David Stewart, Mains of Dalrulzion; 2 and 3 Elizabeth Stewart. Pair of mule ewes, nursed as a lamb this year - 1 Ardlebank; 2 Laighwood; 3 Mains of Mause. Pair of cross gimmers - 1, 2, 3 Mains of Dalrulzion. Pair of mule gimmers - 1 Mains of Mause; 2 Folda; 3 Laighwood.

NORTH-TYPE BLACKFACE SHEEP

The north-type blackface sheep champion was shown by David Nicol, Viewmount, Glenisla, with a three-crop ewe. Alan Petrie, Meikle Coul, Tannadice, showed the reserve, a home-bred gimmer.

The judge was Stephen Duncan jun, of Auchdreggn­ie, Glenlivet. Trophy winners were as follows: Best adult male sheep (Pitcarmick Cup) Brian Cocker.

Best adult female sheep (Straloch Cup) David Nicol, Viewmount.

Best Blackface ewe lamb (Constable Cup) - Viewmount.

Best Blackface ram lamb (Messrs Keir and Cawder Trophy) - Viewmount.

Best shepherd’s sheep (Blackhall Trophy) - Brian Cocker.

Group of three females (WS McDonald Cup) - Alan Petrie, Meikle Coul.

Group of three males (Ashintully Trophy) - Viewmount. Adult male - Viewmount. Adult female - Viewmount. Supreme Champion (RS Young Cup) Viewmount with their ewe. Reserve - Alan Petrie with his gimmer. CLASSES BF aged ram - Glenfernat­e. BF shearling ram - 1 Brian Cocker; 2 Alan Petrie; 3 Viewmount. BF ram lamb - 1 Viewmount; 2 Alan Petrie; 3 Jean Lindsay. Shepherds’ Blackface sheep north type classes: Shearling ram - 1 Brian Cocker; 2 Adam Forbes, Viewmount. BF ram lamb Brian Cocker. BF ewe - Brian Cocker. Champion - Brian Cocker, Auldallan, with his two-crop ewe.

SOUTH-TYPE BLACKFACE SHEEP

Mark Simpson, Sidlaw, Blairgowri­e, took the BF South-type championsh­ip with his threecrop ewe. Reserve was Calum Simpson, Sidlaw, with his one-crop ewe.

The judge was Judge Willie Taylor, of Dall, Killin. Trophy winners were as follows: Champion (Macdonald, Fraser and Co Trophy) - Sidlaw.

Best opposite sex South type (Forfar Marts Trophy) - Sidlaw.

Best ram lamb (Dave Stewart Trophy) Sidlaw.

Best ewe lamb (Jenny Stewart Trophy) Fraser Wilson, Steading Cottage.

Group of three males Blackface South type (Lady Nairn Trophy) - Tomchulan.

Group of three females Blackface South type (Sandy Webster Memorial Trophy) - Sidlaw.
