SIDLAW LEAGUE WIN FOR RATTRAY

There was delight at Rattray Bowling Club after the ladies’section was crowned Sidlaw Ladies Bowling League champions.

Members celebrated with a flag presentati­on on Sunday, on a day which also saw member clubs play against Rattray.

The game was followed with hospitalit­y and a meal served by the gents’section.

Congratula­tions were also expressed to the gents’triples rink of Martin McGilvray, Chic Knowles and Graeme Lawrence, who won the Stathmore Bowling Associatio­n Champion of Champions competitio­n on August 14 at Burrelton BC.

The Rattay trio played Newtyle in a very closely fought contest but stretched their lead in the last quarter of the game.

In a further success for the club, the gents’section once again won the Senior Strathmore League.

The flag presentati­on is on Tuesday, September 13, at 2pm.

Elsewhere, Rattray played a friendly at home against Blairgowri­e on August 17.

Light refreshmen­ts were served following this evening game.

The ladies’section played a game away to Monifieth BC on August 16.

While the Monifieth ladies scored the highest shots overall, the game was played in good spirit and in brilliant sunshine.

Following the game, the Monifieth ladies served a lovely tea ensuring some time for friendship­s to form.

Rattray Ladies section hosted a friendly game against Strathmore BC on August 23.

The game was played in good spirits, helped by glorious weather.

Results, Rattray skips first, were as follows:

S Richardson 12, J Whitehouse 21; E Stewart 12, B Greig 13.

The overall score was 34-24 in favour of Strathmore.

Rattray hosted a mixed game against Wigton Tourists on Saturday.

The tourists, from Cumbria, were on a bowling weekend playing against various clubs throughout the district.

Rattray enjoyed a resounding victory and the highest up rink for Rattray was M Offen, G Lawrence, C Kinnear and G Whyte.

Forms are still available for the Gents’Open Fours tournament, to be played on September 3.
