‘True devotees’ step down from committee

-

Two stalwarts of the Blairgowrie and Rattray Highland Games announced their retirement from the organising committee at this year’s event.

Chair Bob Ellis and treasurer Margaret Wotherspoon are stepping down from the committee after several years’involvement with the games.

Bob has supported the games in various capacities for over two decades, most recently as chair.

He said:“I have been involved with the games for quite a number of years now and it is time I handed over the reins to someone else.

“I have very much enjoyed my tenure as chair of the games. It is a real family event and a great spectacle.

“It is always great to see everyone having such a good time at the games and enjoying the abundance of things to do and see throughout the day.”

A spokesperson for the committee described Bob and Margaret as“true devotees of the games”, adding that the event has“undoubtedly grown under their guidance”.

They added:“The chieftain of the games, and the committee, would like to thank both Bob and Margaret most sincerely for their dedication to the games and to the community.

“Margaret has applied great observational skills and precision to the games’accounts which are in superb order thanks to her expertise.

“And Bob has combined his unique knowledge of the people and topography of this area to enormous advantage for the games. He is of practical help, the first to pitch in when help is called for, and excellent at persuading his many contacts to help the games out.

“He has, probably, got one of the most recognisable voices in Blairgowrie as he does most of the commentary over the tannoy on games day itself, and he also organises the hill race.”

If anyone wishes to join the committee, which meets on a monthly basis from February, please contact secretary Kym Ellis on 01250 876837 or email secretary@blairgowriehighlandgames. co.uk
