Coupar Angus were at home to Jeanfield Swifts in the East of Scotland Cup first round on Saturday.

Logan McConachie’s young team went into the match against the Super League side from Perth as underdogs, and despite a spirited performance they were heavily defeated.

Coupar started quickly and put the visitors to Foxhall Park on the back foot in the opening exchanges.

That was until Swifts got the breakthrough they had been striving for in 41 minutes when they won a corner.

The delivery was met in the Coupar goalmouth by Lee Deans, who headed it past the keeper to put Swifts 1-0 ahead.

A couple of minutes later they had increased their lead to 2-0 with a goal not unlike the previous one.

Steve McManus met a cross into the area and did the needful with a strong header.

Swifts moved 3-0 ahead with a goal from Daniel Kelly in 57 minutes.

This was followed by goal number four in 78 minutes from Chris Scott and in 88 minutes Lee Deans made it 5-0 with his second goal of the game.

Coupar Angus were later praised for the effort they put into what was an entertaining tie.

Coupar’s next scheduled league match is at home to Lochee Harp on September 17.

Kick-off at Foxhall Park is 2.30pm.
