Bail breach man is jailed

- Court Reporter

A Blairgowrie man who flouted a bail order three times in just over seven weeks by contacting his wife was jailed for two months at Perth Sheriff Court for one of the offences.

Father-of-eight Peter Drummond (34), of Lower Mill Street, was also ordered to complete periods of unpaid work in respect of the other two charges.

Sheriff William Wood told him: “When people are put on bail, with special conditions, it’s for a good reason.”

The court was told that he had been freed on bail from the Perth court on May 16 this year but a special condition banning him from approaching or contacting her in any way – or going to her home in Davie Park Place – was imposed.

But he breached that on July 8, again on August 11 and for a third time on August 28.

The jail term was backdated to August 29, when Drummond was first remanded. He will also have to complete a total of 200 hours of work in the community in respect of the other contraventions.

In addition, he will be supervised by a social worker for nine months and will have to take part in the Positive Relations group work programme.

The court heard that on one of the occasions he had been seen in the company of his wife. Solicitor Mike Tavendale said he had gone to her house because of concerns expressed by other family members regarding her state of health.
