Church Rev Tom Tait led Sunday’s service, which was opened by the choir singing an introit ‘By Your Side’. In the Children’s Address Bobby learned how unwise it was to wish for something you can’t possibly have and the camel who became a “camelefantopelecanary” before returning to the beast God meant him to be. The bible readings by Ian Bentley were from Habakkuk ch 1, v 1-3 and 12-17 and the first 17 verses from Romans ch 8. Mr Tait told how the questions asked by Habakkuk, a prophet who lived six centuries before Jesus, were still being asked by people today in so many countries as they suffer from wickedness and uncertainty. When what has appeared to be unshakeable in your life has been shaken. “Oh Lord, how long must I call for help?” Habakkuk had feelings of despair, something was terribly wrong, destruction and violence were the norm, where was justice? Mr Tait reminded those gathered of their own concerns and sadness in Coupar Angus for the tragedy that has befallen the Edwards family. What does life mean in a world like this? Habakkuk climbed the village watch tower with a patient endurance that was characterised by a state of expectancy. He recognised the evil of his day but was convinced of a deeper meaning to life. In his darkest hour he discovered that the highest use of shaken time is to discover the unshakeable. Although circumstances got worse before they got better, the Lord gave him strength and hope. Mr Tait said: “May that strength be yours, not only at this time, but always, and may the Edwards family have something of that hope”. The congregation prayed for all who are suffering in this world and for the Edwards family, to whom worshippers’ hearts go out to in this dark moment of their lives. Organist Austin Wilkie played Choral Prelude in F Major by CH Willan and Prelude and Fugue in C Major by JS Bach. Thursday Friends The most recent party was enjoyed by all. Kay Keay welcomed all and introduced entertainer Brian Sharp who played the keyboard and sang. Ann Campbell thanked all for attending and thanked Brian for a lovely afternoon of music and song. The next party is on November 10. Charity Shop Sheila and Allan Legge, with Margaret Taylor, would like to thank all who supported the shop last week. Special thanks to Joe for collecting and delivering goods. A total of £1870 was raised.
