Vote now for the new Alyth citizens of year
Nominations are sought for town’s unsung heroes
Nominations are being sought for the Alyth Citizen of the Year, Young Person of the Year and Community Group of the Year.
The annual accolade is organised by Alyth Community Council and aims to recognise the often unsung heroes of the east Perthshire town.
Members of the community council are urging local residents to nominate before the closing date of Tuesday next week.
A spokesperson for Alyth Community Council said: “We have lots of Alyth people who are worthy of receiving an award so please get a form, fill it in and submit it.”
Last year, Alyth’s Citizen of the Year was Kathleen Jackson who was recognised for all her hard work with the town’s Scout group.
James Atkinson was the Young Person of the Year and the community of Alyth as a whole was announced as the Community Group of the Year in recognition of the way the town pulled together after the devastating floods that hit the town in July 2015.
The Citizen of the Year will be invited to turn the Christmas lights on in Alyth on Saturday, November 26.
All the awards will be formally presented to the winners at a special volunteers party in Alyth Town Hall in February next year.
Nomination forms are available from Lunans Newsagents, the Cafe in the Square, the Losset Inn and Alyth Library and can be returned there too.
Alternatively, nominations can be made online by emailing alythcommunitycouncil@gmail. com stating the name and contact details of the nominee and the nominator and the reasons for the nomination.
All nominees should be asked in advance if they are happy to be nominated.
The deadline for nominations to be received is Tuesday, November 22.
