Traditional songs at kirk
A concert by Caraidean is to be held in Blairgowrie Parish Church on Wednesday this week at 7.30pm.
Caraidean are a group of four singers who perform traditional, Gaelic and contemporary music and poetry.
They have previously appeared at Dougie MacLean’s Perthshire Amber festival and their album Freens Thegither is a former Celtic Music Radio Album of the Week.
The concert is being organised by Dunkeld and Meigle (East) Presbyterial Council of the Church of Scotland Guild as part of their Guild Week celebrations and aims to raise funds for Playlist for Life - the charity that Sally Magnusson set up after witnessing the effect of music on the her late mother’s dementia.
The television presenter realised that music helped to connect her mother to the family and research has shown that personally meaningful music offers a universal key to unlocking individuality and supporting family and wider social connections.
At the recent Bookmark Festival in Blairgowrie last month, and in September at the Guild’s National Gathering, Sally spoke movingly about her mother’s journey with dementia and her book about their experiences, Where the Memories Go.
Tickets for the concert are available through Guild members or at the door on the night and cost £5 which will be donated to Playlist for Life.
