Local produce to go on show at charity event
A group of local food and drink producers are gathering at Cargill’s Bistro and Restaurant on Saturday this week for a special ‘meet the maker’ afternoon.
The session, which takes place between 3pm and 4.30pm, is the latest in a series of fundraising events for Blairgowrie’s second name a guide dog puppy campaign.
Among the local producers taking part are The Old Piggery, a local family-run business dedicated to producing high quality beef and pork, Perthshire-based Wicked Chocolate, and purveyors of homemade gourmet marshmallows, The Wee Mallow Company.
Drink producers Persie Gin from Bridge of Cally and The Rookery Mead will also be at the event.
Lesley McDonald, of the host venue on Blairgowrie’s Lower Mill Street, is looking forward to their latest meet the maker event.
She said: “This is the third meet the maker afternoon we have held at Cargill’s as part of our fundraising efforts for Guide Dogs Scotland.
“They are always popular events and we hope that this one, which has a particular focus on locally-produced food and drink, will be just as popular.
“There will be an opportunity to taste the produce on offer and buy gifts or pre-order in time for Christmas.
“And, if you make a booking on Saturday for a festive meal at Cargill’s, you will receive a free bottle of wine with your meal!”
There will also be a raffle at the event with some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses, including a watch donated by Blairgowrie jewellers Victor and Sons, and a rare bottle of whisky, with all proceeds going towards the fundraising efforts for Guide Dogs Scotland.
The first name a puppy campaign, organised by Lesley, raised £5000 for Guide Dogs Scotland and the puppy’s name, as chosen by members of the public, is Bramble.
The second puppy will also have a Blairgowrie-themed name as approved by Guide Dogs Scotland, chosen from the remaining shortlist of six names - Berry, Bluebell, Blair, Cargill, Newton or Rattray.
As before, people will be able to make a donation of £1 and vote for their favourite choice of name.
People can vote as many times as they like and one lucky voter will also be in with a chance of meeting the puppy.
Voting jars are located in various local businesses.
