Festive waste collections
Perth and Kinross Council has announced changes to its waste and recycling services over the Christmas holidays.
There will be no kerbside bin collections on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, or on January 1 and January 2.
The last special uplift collection will be on December 22, with normal collections resuming on January 5.
For the majority of residents who would’ve otherwise had their bin emptied on these days, the green general waste and the blue recycling bins will instead be emptied on December 24 and December 31, respectively.
There will also be no brown garden waste bin collections between December 23 and January 6. They will resume on from January 7.
A small number of households and commercial customers will receive a letter if their collections differ from these standard changes.
The council does not collect excess waste which is not in wheeled bins, meaning waste should only be presented for collection inside a wheeled bin with the lid closed – by 7.30am on the day of collection.
Waste services crews will do their best to reach homes and empty bins if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
The council will post any updates on its website, Facebook or Twitter and would encourage residents to sign up and receive email alerts.
In snowy or icy conditions, regular collections will resume within five working days of the return of less hazardous weather conditions.
All recycling centres will be closed on December 25 and 26, and January 1 and 2.
Real Christmas trees can be chopped up and placed in brown bins, or taken to recycling centres.
They can also be chopped up and added to home compost bins along with vegetable peelings, fruit cores, tea bags, egg shells, coffee grounds, scrunched newspaper and torn-up cardboard.
Neither real nor artificial Christmas trees will be collected by the bin lorry.
