Coupar Angus Juniors manager Logan McConachie insists his players are full of confidence following a number of positive results.

The east Perthshire side added to an improving season on Saturday afternoon by travelling to Luncarty and winning 4-2 in the North Division.

Alex Gibb netted a second half hattrick for the men from Foxhall Park, with Aaron Ogilvie also on the scoresheet.

Richard Donovan and Darren Kelly were on target for the home side.

“We tried to press Luncarty from the start and they tried the same game plan,” Logan said after the match.

He added: “We struggled to contain them for the first 25 minutes. But then we got a good rhythm going and got back to our usual game and were unfortunate not to score before their second, which was a great strike from Darren Kelly.

“We changed it around at half-time to frustrate them and keep them penned in, which clearly worked.

“There’s a huge confidence in the squad and even when we chatted at half-time, everyone was dead certain they’d win the game if we stuck to the game plan.

“It’s a huge boost when everyone around you has the right mindset.

“We’ve had some really supportive comments from fans and it definitely helps the players when they get people there encouraging them and telling them how enjoyable they are to watch.”

Logan, who is only 24, says he is enjoying life in his first full year as a Junior football manager.

And he will challenge his players to keep the good times rolling.

He said: “Personally, I’m loving it. I’ve got a great group of players and a coaching team that I’ve got complete trust in. Tam and Rab are two really unassuming, genuine guys and have been crucial to our recent successes.

“We never rest on our laurels and continually challenge our group of players to make sure they are on their toes.

“We’ve set targets with the squad and individuals, so we’ll hopefully continue our recent form into the new year.

“We’re looking forward to it already but first we’re all keen to enjoy some time with family and friends over the winter break.”

Disappointed Luncarty manager Jon Kelly said: “We learned a few lessons on Saturday. If you don’t kill off a team when you have the chances there is always a chance it will come back to haunt you.

“I was very disappointed in how our players crumbled and fell apart. This was far too easy and should never happen.

“Great credit goes to Coupar Angus though as they never stopped working and got their reward in the end.”

Coupar’s next match in the league is away to Lochee Harp on January 7.

Kick-off is 1.45pm, according to the league’s official website.
