Scots night of poetry at Kilry rural meeting

Isobel Buick, president, welcomed members to the Januar y meeting which took the form of a Scots night with poems from Pat Donaldson and Isobel Buick.

The highlight for the members was Highland dancing from Elspeth McCl e ment a n d L i l y To s h i n f u l l Highland dress.

A buffet of Scots fare was enjoyed and the president gave a vote of thanks.

Competitio­ns : Two Oatcakes - 1 Margaret Darroch, 2 Joan Donaldson, 3 Elma Kydd; Invitation to a Burns Supper - 1 Jean Crighton, 2 Pat Donaldson, 3 Isobel Buick. members and friends to the meeting on Tuesday, January 10.

The group enjoyed a lovely ‘handson’ crochet lesson with Muriel Brown and Margot Mur ray from Rattray Institute, which most of the ladies took part in, and would like to thank Muriel and Margot for sharing their skills and for judging the competitio­ns.

Thanks to those who entered and do keep on entering.

The next meeting is an open meeting where the group hopes to welcome members from the other institutes in the Blairgowri­e group and friends.

The meeting takes place on Tuesday, February 7 at the usual time of 7.30pm and the entertainm­ent will be from Andy Paterson with his slides of the ‘Stars from the Silver Screen’.

Andy has several different programmes so everyone is welcome to join the group for his show.

After the business was discussed, the speaker for the evening was introduced. Andy Patterson, from Errol, gave a very interestin­g talk entitled ‘Stars from the Silver Screen’.

This brought back lots of memories o f g o i n g t o t h e c i n e ma f o r t h o s e gathered.

The group also enjoyed a visit from Carol Steel and Kathleen Ferrier, who appeared on behalf of the Angus Federation.

In December the group had their Christmas Dinner at Strathmore Golf Centre which was enjoyed by all, and Santa made a visit to deliver gifts to all the members.
