New outdoor venture to open in Alyth

-

Two enterprising local businesses are opening a new attraction in Alyth this week.

The Barony, which is based in a former church on Commercial Street in the east Perthshire town, will act as a tourist information centre, a shop, a place to book and hire outdoor activities in the area, and somewhere where people can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

There will even be a bouldering wall in the premises.

The new attraction, which opens on Friday, February 3 at 3pm, is a collaborative venture between two businesses in the area, Outdoor Explore run by Blairgowrie-based Piotr Gudan, and Alyth Cycles, run by Nicola and Neil Tuer.

Both businesses launched just over two years ago and have grown to the point where they require larger premises.

They set up a co-operative between the businesses which they feel complement each other in the services and activities that they offer - to enable them to secure a much bigger venue than either would have been able to do on their own.

Piotr explained: “We are aiming to attract not just local residents in the area but also tourists visiting this part of Scotland, encouraging them to stay in east Perthshire for longer than they might have otherwise done.

“Alyth, due to its location on the Cateran Trail and within a relatively short journey time from Perth, Dundee, Forfar and the Cairngorms, is the perfect location for us to offer our services from.

“We are very excited about this new venture and have received some kind and positive words of support from Visit-Scotland, Perthshire tourism organisations and local residents, businesses and councillors.”
