Raising money for new facility in Coupar Angus

-

UK mainland at Dunnet Head, and down the east coast to Peterhead.

From there he will continue south back to Coupar Angus via Inverurie, Banchory, Edzell and Kirriemuir.

Grant explained that as a mountain biker he hasn’t done much road riding but is training hard by cycling from his home in Dundee to his work at the cycling hub in Coupar Angus every day, and is “trying to squeeze as many long rides in as possible”.

He admitted: “I did my first 100 mile ride a couple of weeks ago and it was tough.

“Mark Beaumont is going to be cycling around the coast of Britain at the same time and he has given me some good advice, in particular about hydration and nutrition.

“I think over the 15 days I will cover 1500 miles, climb something like 25,200 feet in hills and use 61,320kcals in energy.”

He added: “We need people to help support this track - it is for the community and once it is there it will be there for the community to use for a long time.

“People of all ages and abilities will benefit from the track ‒ from children on balance bikes all the way through to adults wanting to improve their cycling skills.

“It will help people develop skills such as better handling of a bike and road safety, and will also cater for scooters and skaters as well.

“The track will be a free to use, all-year-round weather-proof facility for everyone, allowing us to facilitate coaching sessions, and it will be available for the primary school to use for PE lessons.

“And of course Coupar Angus is ideally located for the track to be easily accessible from Blairgowrie, Dundee, Forfar and Perth with a network of quiet minor roads.”

People can support Grant or donate to the crowdfunding efforts for the skills track by going to the cycling hub website at www. cacyclinghub.com.
