Last shipment leaves Blair to go to Malawi
It was the end of an era as the last shipment of goods donated by the churches in Blairgowrie and Rattray started their journey from east Perthshire to Malawi last month.
The churches in the area have been collecting goods to send to Malawi through the Raven Trust for over 10 years now.
Since its inception, the Raven Trust has sent goods worth over £1 million to Malawi. Goods that have been sent to the African nation include medical supplies, books, tools and equipment, clothing, toiletries and other items such as sports equipment and toys.
The Trust has also undertaken building and maintenance projects at Mission Hospitals and rebuilt a hospital boat for Lake Malawi.
However, the Argyll-based trust is now closing and the last shipment will be leaving Dundee this month.
Howes Removals in Blairgowrie generously offered to transport the final donations from local churches in Blairgowrie and Rattray to the Raven Trust depot in the City of Discovery.
A spokesperson for Blairgowrie Parish Church said: “We are all so grateful for Howes’ support of a local community project and its volunteers.
“In the ten years that we have been collecting for the Raven Trust we have shipped at least 100 sewing and knitting machines, hundreds of boxes of clothes and books, bicycles, household equipment, craft goods and tools to Malawi.
“It has been a very worthwhile effort and the support everyone has given us is very much appreciated here and in Malawi.”
