Rattray pupils are just pipped to the post in schools quiz

- Clare Damodaran

Rattray Primary School were runners up in a closely fought annual schools quiz last week.

In a nail-biting finale, the team of four pupils from Rattray were in joint first place and just missed out on the tiebreaker question, eventually taking second place in Perth and Kinross Council’s Safer Community Wardens quiz in Perth.

Rattray was one of eight schools who have taken part in the Junior Community Wardens scheme in recent years and who took part in the quiz.

The Junior Community Wardens scheme works with pupils in primary six, and each school team in the quiz is made up of four pupils, one each from P4 to P7 classes.

As well as promoting the Safer Community Warden Service, the quiz also aims to encourage school integration and enhanced communications between the wardens and schools, and promote a friendlier and safer community environment.

Community Safety Convener, Councillor Douglas Pover commented: “This is a fun and enjoyable way to highlight community safety with our younger residents, and it is great to see so many pupils taking part from local schools.

“The Junior Community Wardens scheme provides a further link to our communities and highlights the importance of reporting issues or concerns so action can be taken.”

A spokesperson for Rattray Primary School commented: “Well done to Romy McNab, Ramsay Gregor-Jenney, Shane Bowen and Stewart Page who came second in the Perth and Kinross Community Wardens’ Quiz.

“They were an absolute credit to the school, giving a great performance and behaving very sportingly when so narrowly pipped to the post in what was a very close-run competition.

“Everyone at the school is very proud of them.”
