Strathmore Screen serves up triple bill of top films in Blair this Sunday

-

East Perthshire film lovers are reminded that Blairgowrie-based community cinema group Strathmore Screen is showing three top films this Sunday.

La La Land, Sing and T2 Trainspotting will all grace the screen at Blairgowrie Town Hall on March 5.

Featuring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, La La Land won seven Golden Globes, five BAFTAs and six Oscars. The musical romantic comedy will be shown at 1pm.

Animated film Sing, meanwhile, sees the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C Reilly, Taron Egerton and Tori Kelly lend their voices to characters in the afternoon film at 4pm.

And, 21 years since they first burst on to the big screen, Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie are back for the highly-anticipated sequel to the iconic Trainspotting, shown from 7pm.

Tickets are on sale at Mitchell’s Newsagents on the High Street and Calutek in Rattray, priced £6.50 for adults, £5.50 concessions and £5 for children.

Family tickets – for one adult and up to three children or two adults and two children – are £21. Doors open 30 minutes before each film.

Talented musicians Be Charlotte have secured a spot on the line-up of an exciting new festival to take place in Dundee this summer.

Be Charlotte, fronted by former Hill Primary School pupil Charlotte Brimner, are one of several local bands that will be taking to the stage at Carnival Fifty Six, which takes place at Camperdown Park on August 12 and 13.

The eclectic line-up also features superstar DJ and producer Mark Ronson in what is the one of music’s most succesful artist’s only Scottish festival appearance this year.

Other festival favourites on the bill for Carnival Fifty Six include Rudimental, Clean Bandit and Basement Jaxx.

And flying the flag for local bands alongside Be Charlotte are Dundee indie rockers The Law, Sinderins who wowed Blairgowrie audiences at the Perthshie Amber festival a few years ago, and the City of Discovery’s Vladimir who two years ago secured an advertising deal with iconic footwear company Dr Martens.

2016 was a busy year for the hotlytipped Dundee-based teenager Charlotte and her band mates who played at festivals and venues up and down the country.

They also managed to squeeze in a tour of south-east Asia where they played gigs in five countries.

The trio have featured on BBC Radio Scotland’s Quay Sessions, won the Rekordelig Big Apple Award at the Scottish Music Awards which will see them play in New York later this year, and also performed at the legendary Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations in Princes Street Gardens.

Festival director, Craig Blyth, said: “We are really pleased to be announcing this year’s Carnival Fifty Six line up.

“Mark Ronson is in a class of his own, few artists match the energy of Rudimental live and Clean Bandit are one of the biggest acts today.

“We’re delighted to have them join us as headliners in Dundee on a bill which has real depth and quality.

“There is a huge buzz about the festival, with a few more surprises still to come, and we know the artists will get a massive response when they hit Camperdown this August.”

And organisers described Be Charlotte has “one of Scotland’s hottest breakthrough artists with an innovative and original authenticity”.

Tickets for the festival are on sale now and are available online at www. carnivalfiftysix.co.uk.
