Blair Players in drama festival

-

Blairgowrie Players are entering a youth and two adult plays in the annual Festival of One Act Plays to be held in the Birnam Institute this weekend.

The event is organised by the Scottish Community Drama Association’s Perthshire district.

The first play by the Players will be performed on Thursday, March 2.

One Good Beating by Linda McLean sees two children lock their father in the coal shed as revenge for the way he treated their late mother and themselves.

The second play, which will be performed on Friday, March 3, is None the Wiser by Anthony Booth.

It tells the take of five nuns enjoying a relaxing afternoon who are suddenly shocked out of their comfort zone by the unexpected arrival of two guests.

Their visitors catapult them into a state of turmoil and many prayers are said for a happy conclusion.

The youth play on Saturday, March 4 is Bye Baby Bunting by Mark Green.

Set in January 1839, seven children are working underground in the Lovers Bridge colliery number four mine, when they are trapped by a tunnel collapse.

They bravely comfort each other as they wait for rescue.

Two plays from the festival, which features drama groups from around Perthshire, will be chosen to go forward to the divisional festival, which this year is being held in Orkney in the middle of March.

The SCDA shows start at 7pm each night.

Tickets are available on the door and are priced at £9 for adults and £7 for under 16s.

The Blairgowrie Players will reprise all three of their entries on Friday, March 10 in Blairgowrie Town Hall from 7pm.

Tickets for this show are priced at £10 per person, which includes wine or a soft drink and nibbles, and are available from the Card Gallery on Allan Street in Blairgowrie, telephone 01250 876444, or at the door on the night.
