Favourite characters come to life
Pupils dress up in colourful costumes
Pupils at schools across east Perthshire celebrated World Book Day on Thursday last week.
At Newhill Primary School in Blairgowrie, each class did something different to mark the occasion.
Children in the nursery dressed up as their favourite character and brought their favourite story book to school, while pupils in primary seven read to younger pupils in the primary one classes.
The primary two classes made their own minibeast story based on ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ to share with other pupils in their classes and, in primary three, the children wrote letters relating to the story ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’.
Primary four pupils wrote about their favourite book to read, primary five designed a poster encouraging people to read books and pupils in primary six made up a board game based on a favourite book and brought it in on the day to play.
Meanwhile, Coupar Angus Primary School’s nursery class held a ‘book and a blanket day’ on World Book Day and, in Meigle, the whole school dressed up as characters from their favourite books.
Pupils at Meigle also enjoyed a visit from author and traditional story teller Sylvia Troon as well as a range of other book-related activities throughout the day.
They also held a competition in the run up to World Book Day for pupils and staff to submit a photo of them reading a book in an unusual place.
In primary one to three, the winner was Ava Bell who was photographed reading a book during a recent trip to the dentist.
In primary four, the winner was Hannah Douglas who was pictured reading by the roadworks in Meigle.
The winner in primary five to seven was Ailsa Kerr who read her book sitting on the bonnet of a Tayside Mountain Rescue Land Rover.
Elsewhere, Blairgowrie Library held an early evening event to mark the day with author and illustrator Shalla Gray reading some of her stories, interspersed with other activities.
