Snowdrop festival fun at murder mystery

- Clare Damodaran

Drama returned to Coupar Angus on Monday night last week by way of a murder mystery evening, organised as part of the Snowdrop festivities in the town.

First mooted by the Town Team, the forum where representatives of the various groups in the town meet to discuss ideas, the idea of a murder mystery was taken on by Val Kidd who performed sterling work behind the scenes, keeping everything in order and ensuring it was all right on the night.

The event was held in the Abbey Church in Coupar Angus and welcomed over 70 people who enjoyed the evening.

The victim was Lord Ship and the six actors really got into their roles, despite their initial trepidation.

Lady Ship was performed by Johann Rennie, Slaughter by Joe Richards, Parson Snows by John Palfreyman, Claire Voyant by Rona McKinnon and Major Windbag by Alan Thom. The part of the French cook, Madame Primprenelle, was played by Rejane Vannier of Normandy, France.

As the characters revealed where and what they were up to at the time of the murder the solicitor, played by Jeff Brewer who had collated the dialogue, kept the evening flowing and hosted the discussion that ensued after the final round, ending with the outing of the dastardly culprits: Lady Ship and Slaughter the gamekeeper.

Guests were also entertained by music from the Abbey Church organist Austin Wilkie and enjoyed a delicious meal provided by a team organised by Val and also involving members of the cast.

The cast only had two weeks to perfect their performance and are to be commended for their efforts.

Thanks are also due to Val for organising the event, all the volunteers and the Abbey Church.

All proceeds will go towards hosting events as part of next year’s Snowdrop Festival.
