Quiz night success for puppy campaign

Funds for guide dog charity

- Clare Damodaran

An Irish-themed quiz in Cargill’s Bistro and Restaurant in Blairgowrie last week raised £190 towards the town’s second fundraising campaign to name a puppy for Guide Dogs Scotland.

The money raised at the quiz, which was held in the run up to St Patrick’s Day, takes the total raised so far to £2590 - more than halfway towards the £5000 target.

Two teams shared the honours on the night with Tammy’s Turkeys and Team K9 scoring highest marks.

Tammy’s Turkeys comprised Andrew Young, Paul and Florence Chambers and Thomas Young, while Team K9 comprised Denis and Elaine Bednarek and Kenny and Ruth Rathband.

Deirdre McVean is chair of the Guide Dogs Perth and District fundraising group.

She said: “A great time was had by all at the Irish- themed quiz night at Cargill’s and thanks again to Lesley McDonald and all her team for their ongoing support.

“Everyone enjoyed a pre-quiz dinner before getting down to the serious business of the evening, the quiz itself, which was coordinated by the excellent quiz master, Shoshannah Webb.

“The themed quiz nights have proved to be very popular and I’m delighted to say that Lesley will be organising another quiz in October with a Hallowe’en theme.”

The next event for the name a puppy campaign is an indoor table sale in Blairgowrie Town Hall on May 13.

The sale will take place from 10.30am-3pm, and tables cost £15, payable on the day.

There will be crafts, bric-a-brac, Guide Dog merchandise, a raffle and a lucky draw, and refreshments will be available from 11am to 2.30pm.
