Abbey Church Sunday’s service was led by Rev Andrew Graham and began with the choir singing the introit on the theme of ‘rejoice’. The Bible reading was by Ellen McGibbon, from the first 38 verses of John ch 4, a passage that tells of the meeting at a well between Jesus and a Samaritan woman, at which Jesus informs her He “is the Messiah” and changes her life by his contact with her. Mr Graham reminded the congregation that Jesus is the water of life and that Jesus reaches out to all with love, kindness, generosity and compassion and that just as he touched the life of the Samaritan woman, he can and will do the same for others. Mother Theresa also said that people should spread love everywhere. Conflicts around the world would benefit from more tolerance and love, and people can do their bit, starting in their own corner by sharing the love of God. This powerful message of love was followed by the singing of the hymn ‘Bind us together Lord’ and a prayer for peace wherever it is needed. Music for the service was provided by organist and choir master Austin Wilkie. Prayer meetings are held at 2pm on Wednesday, March 22, and Bible Study at 7.15pm in the Abbey Church. The focus this week is on ‘Lazarus’. All welcome. After the service on Sunday, there will be the annual ASM meeting followed by soup and sandwiches. All this week Pride of Place has the Coupar Angus charity shop and look forward to the generous support of the community.
