Thistle book place in cup semis

-

Blair Thistle faced off against Division Three rivals Kettins in the quarter-final of the Marshall Cup on Saturday.

The home side started well at Davie Park and took the lead when a corner from Dion Tolmie was headed into the net by Hamish Wands.

They doubled their lead when Dee-Jay Tolmie cut the ball back for strike partner Paul Findlay to make it 2-0.

Three minutes later and captain Hamish Wands played a bouncing through ball for Dee-Jay Tolmie, who volleyed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box to increase his side’s lead.

It took Thistle only another five minutes to get their fourth when Cammy McIntyre’s cross found Greg Page unmarked in the box and he coolly controlled and slotted past the keeper.

In the last minute of the first half Greg Sinclair gave away a penalty, which Kettins scored to make it 4-1 at half-time.

The visitors scored in the first five minutes of the second half and were throwing everything at Thistle.

The hosts’ afternoon was made harder when the referee gave Dee-Jay Tolmie his second yellow of the day and sent him for an early bath.

Kettins scored a third with 10 minutes left but Thistle hung on and had Ryan Feaks to thank after he headed off his own line in the last minute to ensure Thistle made the semi-finals.

Cameron McIntyre was voted man of the match.
