Nicola’s boost for Pete’s bid
First Minister’s support
The SNP candidate for Perth and Perthshire North, Pete Wishart, was pleased that the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was able to visit Blairgowrie and boost his campaign efforts for re-election in the forthcoming general election.
He told the Blairie: “I am absolutely delighted that the First Minister was able to join us.
“I had the great pleasure of opening the new facilities at SCYD two years ago and it was great to be able to show her round the excellent facilities there.
“There was a real buzz around the town and fantastic support for the First Minister during her visit here.
“She also joined us for a coffee morning that we held in support of the Jo Cox Foundation at our office in Blairgowrie, and spoke to my team, who are all fired up now for the last couple of weeks of this campaign.”
Deputy First Minister and local MSP for the area, John Swinney, added: “I was delighted that the First Minister was able to spend some of the campaign with us in Blairgowrie on a visit to one of the shining stars of projects in the town, SCYD.
“The First Minister was pleased to see the work undertaken by the centre and the profound impact it has on young people in our community.
“She also had the opportunity to meet a number of local businesses and see the real strength of our business base here.”
Commenting on the election campaign itself and Mr Wishart’s bid to be re-elected, he said: “This is an intense election coming up in Perth and North Perthshire and certainly the most closely fought since I won this constituency 20 years ago.
“Pete Wishart has been an excellent MP for this constituency and we are delighted to do all that we can to ensure he is able to continue his excellent
work of representing the local area and standing up for Scotland at Westminster.”
Recently elected SNP councillor for the Blairgowrie and Glens ward, Tom McEwan, was also among the welcoming committee for the First Minister.
He said: “It’s brilliant that Nicola was able to include Blairgowrie in her hectic schedule, visiting SCYD and seeing all the great work they do with the young people in the area, and meeting local activists and businesses.
“Her visit is a great support to Pete’s campaign and reelection to Westminster to continue representing the people of Perth and Kinross.”
