Meigle look to continue their good form

-

This weekend sees Meigle field three 1st XIs as they seek to build momentum on the back of the giant-killing victory against Uddingston last week in the Citylets Scottish Cup.

Sunday sees Matthew Farmer lead the Black and Golds down to New Cambusdoon in Alloway to take on Cricket Scotland West Premiership outfit Ayr.

The Ayr men, like all in Scottish cricket, are aware of how the villagers upset the threetime Scottish Cup winners of Uddingston last week and Scotland A caps Andi and Scott McElnea, ‘keeper Neil Smith and ex-New Zealand Test player Michael Papps will be seeking to avoid the unwanted headlines of being beaten by a championship level team.

A fixture pile-up sees Meigle also take on old foes Freuchie at Victory Park on Sunday with Bobby Edington captaining the side in the The Cricketer National Village Cup.

The XI will have some key players such as Neil Wimberley, Ross McDonald and Tom Duff available with some youth adding quality in the field as Meigle hope to make the Scottish final for the fourth time in five years.

The match ball is sponsored by H Gillon, Arnbathie Farms.

On Saturday the 1st XI will have Dundee HSFP visiting in the match sponsored by Grewar’s Farm Shop.

The Dalnacraig men often save some of their best batting performances for the Black and Golds and Zahid and Majeed Rasheed and Balaji Ramlaingam have to be kept an eye on, given their talents with the willow as well as with ball in hand.

The Ayr match begins at noon, the Freuchie tussle at 1pm and Saturday’s league clash at 1pm.
