Organisers impressed by young volunteers

-

Young volunteers from the Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD) events team have impressed event organisers with their professionalism and work ethic.

Steve Oatley, head of national events at ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, described working with the youngsters as one of the highlights of this year’s event.

Niamh Hunter (15) is one of the volunteers with the SCYD events team.

She explained: “SCYD is really keen to involve young people in events where we can gain skills such as first aid, fire safety and event management skills and then be in a situation where we can put these skills into practice if required.

“I’ve been involved for about a year and have worked on events such as Gala Rocks, Blairgowrie and Rattray Highland Games, and the local community markets.”

Aaron Cannon is the team’s founder and operations manager.

He said: “We were delighted to get on board with the Cateran Yomp.

“It is the biggest event we’ve done so far but we’ve all really enjoyed working with the team at True Grit Events behind the scenes.

“We’ve been lending a hand with lots of things to do with the whole event such as traffic management, car parks, organising things at the event hub and water stops.

“It has been a big responsibility but that was great because it’s been a fantastic opportunity to show people what the team is capable of.”
