Town centre funding deal

Council agrees cash for project

- Clare Damodaran

Alyth Development Trust has secured significant funding for the town centre regeneration project. we believe they are hoping to start some time in 2018.”

A spokesperson for the local authority confirmed: “The council has allocated £450,000 capital funding to the project.

“The next stage will be the development and submission of a planning application for the works.

“Further public engagement is anticipated regarding the final plans and the council will also be meeting with local elected members and Alyth Development Trust as part of the process for working up the finalised drawings.

“At present we anticipate work starting on the ground in spring 2018.

“This revised timescale reflects that council funding has only recently been confirmed and that there are a number of processes to go through, notably seeking planning consent and procurement of contractors for the works.

“We did not wish to incur further disruption to the community this year, following the installation of the footbridges over the Alyth Burn, and we wish to avoid disruption to the busy festive season and from winter working conditions.

“Part of our discussions with the local community groups will be to identify the period of time for the works which causes least local disruption.”
