Book festival will be tasty

- Clare Damodaran

Book lovers and foodies in east Perthshire are reminded that the BOOKMARK festival programme will be launched this Saturday at a special event in Blairgowrie Town Hall.

‘A Taste of BOOKMARK’ will feature award-winning chef and local lad Graeme Pallister, who will be giving a talk and cookery demonstrations at the event.

There will also be produce from local food producers - including Alison’s Kitchen, Cairn O’Mohr, Drumturk Cheese and Euan McIntyre Berries - at the launch.

The Blairgowrie Players will be giving a taster of the show that they will be performing on the Sunday after the main BOOKMARK event in October.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Campus Strings, a musical ensemble of pupils from St Stephen’s and Newhill primary schools, led by talented musician Audrey Mattner, who recently played at the highly successful Ruthven Festival.

And journalist, author and ‘Moonwalker’ mountaineer Alan Rowan will also be at the event to chat about his books.

Chair of BOOKMARK, Janey Lambie, is looking forward to the launch event.

She said: “A Taste of BOOKMARK will offer guests an opportunity to sample some of the best experiences - both literary and foodie - that Perthshire can offer, while sipping a glass of fizz and mulling over BOOKMARK’s 2017 programme.

“We are absolutely delighted that Graeme Pallister, chef patron of 63 Tay Street, has agreed to come and speak about his passion for food and its wider importance to community and quality of life while giving us a demonstration of his culinary skills.”

In line with the ‘taste’ theme of the launch, Waterstones, BOOKMARK’s newly appointed official bookseller, will be offering a selection of cookery books and books on Scottish food for those at the launch to browse and buy.

Tickets for ‘A Taste of BOOKMARK’ are £15, which includes a glass of sparkling wine, and are available from Blairgowrie Library on 01250 871305, Waterstones in Perth on 01738 630013, BOOKMARK membership secretary Rhona Christie on 01250 875613 or online at www. bookmarkblair.com. Doors open at 1.30pm. The fifth annual BOOKMARK festival takes place at Blairgowrie Community Campus on October 6 and October 7.

Tickets for the October events will be available to purchase at the festival programme launch and online after the launch event.
