Hairdresser Kay is set for a busy retirement
After 43 years at salon
A Blairgowrie hairdresser is to hang up her brushes and scissors next week after more than five decades in the profession.
Kay McNab has owned Set ‘n’ Style on Perth Street in the town for 43 years and recently took the difficult decision to sell her salon.
Her last appointments are on Saturday, July 15 and Kay will be handing over the keys to the new stylist, Louise Gibson from Meigle, that afternoon.
Speaking to the Blairie, Kay, who has been hairdressing since she left school at 16, said: “I love hairdressing, I love all my customers, I get all the news from them!
“I just love people and we just chat all day long here.”
After leaving Blairgowrie High School, Kay went to work at Jannetta’s on the High Street and did her training at the L’oreal hairdressing school in Glasgow.
She then took over her own premises on Perth Street next door to the current Set ‘n’ Style, which used to be a wool shop before Kay bought it and, with her joiner husband, transformed it into the salon.
Kay said: “I have so many lovely loyal customers, some of whom have been with me for years, even since I worked at Janetta’s, so it’s going to be a very emotional last day.
“I’ll miss the hustle and bustle of the salon.”
She will be keeping herself busy however.
As well as her involvement with the Blairgowrie Players, Kay will be helping her daughter out with her children.
She said: “My daughter is having twin boys later this month and already has a 14-month-old daughter.
“She has a really good job at the council and wants to go back to work so my husband, who is also retired, and I will be helping her out looking after the children.”
