PUPILS WIN SCHOOL AWARDS
Couper Angus PS prize giving
Coupar Angus Primary School celebrated the conclusion of the school year with an end-of-term service and prize-giving ceremony.
A number of awards were presented to pupils for excellence in various fields, including sports, art, drama, music, citizenship and effort.
The winner of the house shield for sports was Denhead, with Kayleigh Bruce taking home the girls’ sports cup and Andrew Wilkie winning the boys’ sports cup.
Ellie Turnbull won the Miss Hossack Prize for Music and Charlotte Hamilton was presented with the Dux award.
The Jewell prize for drama was presented to Fred Kelly for the second year running, the art prize was awarded to Charlotte Gallacher and the Whitelaw Gardening Quaich went to Jay Coram.
The P7 Community Council Cup for best role model was presented to Craig McLellen, the P6 Cameron Community Salver was awarded to William Marshall, Ryley Forrest won the P5 salver for improvement in maths, Logan Symon won the P4 Hindmarch Cup, Debbie Lamb won the P3 prize for effort in reading, Julita Marczukwon the P2 prize for presentation and Molly Symon in P1 won the Hugh Fraser Shield for good citizenship.
Callum Boath and Morgan Whyte were presented with medals for being charity champions and Christopher Rolfe won an award for speech and language.
Ties were also presented to P7 pupils who are going onto high school after the school holidays, and Grant Murdoch from the Coupar Angus Cycling Hub presented pupils in P7 with their Bikeability awards.
And the winners of the Gala Rocks Coupar Angus Has Talent competition were announced as Aiden Harris and Murray MacCuish.
Shona Turnbull from the school’s parent council, Supporting Our Children (SOC), said that over £2500 had been raised for the school this year and thanked everyone who had supported their efforts.
She added that it was imperative to build on the improvements that the school has made in the last year, and went on to pay tribute to SOC stalwart Dot Brighouse who was standing down after seven years on the committee.
Head teacher, Nicola Drew, praised all the pupils for their hard work and thanked all the teachers, staff and parents for their support throughout the year.
She said: “We have a really talented bunch of children here, and well done to everyone who received prizes.
“Thank you to all the boys and girls for all their hard work over the year and thanks also to the amazing team of staff and volunteers at Coupar Angus Primary School - they are a dedicated and hard working bunch and it’s been a great academic year.”
