A journey through the decades
Pupils from primary 3 learned about famous people from the time of Queen Victoria, including Florence Nightingale
Talented pupils at Newhill Primary School took delighted audiences at Blairgowrie Community Campus on a journey through time with their summer show ‘Through the Decades.’
Weeks of rehearsals and hard work paid off with the youngsters relishing their roles in the production, which featured the whole school.
And there was great support from the local community as lots of justifiably proud parents, grandparents, families and friends turned out for the three entertaining performances.
There were plenty of popular culture references throughout the show, which took the audience back to the 1990s, the 2000s, the 1960s, the 1920s and even the Victorian era and to the times of the Picts and the Vikings.
And thanks to the props department there was even a Doctor Who-style time-travelling machine for the plucky adventurers, and a particularly impressive Viking ship and village.
There was also a fantastic performance from the school orchestra, led by Audrey Mattner, who played a range of tunes including Bonnie Tammie Scolla, Farley Bridge, Ye Jacobites by Name and Ragtime.
The show culminated with the whole school singing Summer Holiday.
Acting head teacher at the school, Anne Goodman, thanked everyone for attending and congratulated the children on their sterling efforts.
She said: “The children have all put in a huge effort for this show, and so have their families, particularly in terms of helping out with learning lines and creating costumes and props, so a big thank you to everyone.
“Thanks also to the staff for all their hard work and for helping the children create some wonderful snapshots of time for us all to enjoy.
“Thank you to Mrs Johnstone for the musical accompaniment, to Mrs Mattner and the orchestra, the lighting crew, and the support staff, in particular Mrs Barcus Buchan for helping with costumes and Mrs Aird and Mrs Brown for helping and creating props.
“It was a fantastic show and we have all very much enjoyed being a part of it.”
