HORSES:

Friday is a day for horse followers with all-day judging of ponies and horses proudly shown by exhibitors ranging from tots to adults. Around 430 horses of every breed - from working hunters to veteran horses - will vie to catch the judges’ eye in the day’s 75 closelycon­tested individual classes. Back again this year are the Horse and Country Racehorse classes which will see retired racehorses from all over the country compete in both ridden and in-hand classes, complement­ing the show’s alreadypop­ular veteran horse classes. A Grand Parade of all champions and prizewinne­rs brings the day’s equestrian classes to a close. This year the Perth Quaich will be presented to the Supreme Champion in the Light Legged Horse clases. TRADE EXHIBITORS

(also Saturday): Away from the show ring, visitors can wander the many and varied trade stands. Traders showcasing their businesses will range from agricultur­al machinery and equipment suppliers to charities and countrysid­e/wildlife organisati­ons, land agents and car dealership­s to clothing, jewellery and household goods. PERTHSHIRE ON A PLATE FOOD FESTIVAL

(also Saturday): Building on last year’s successful partnershi­p, Perth Show 2017 is delighted to welcome back Perthshire On A Plate (POAP) - a major food festival celebratin­g the very best in local produce and culinary talent (supported by Quality Meat Scotland, which has a long and valued associatio­n with Perth Show). Organised by Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, the two-day festival will run as part of the show and feature celebrity and local chefs, demonstrat­ions and tastings, book signings, food and drink related trade stands and a dining area and pop-up restaurant­s in a double celebratio­n of food and farming. A range of pop-up restaurant­s featuring taster dishes from some of the area’s best loved eateries will allow visitors to sample delicious local produce cooked to perfection as they relax in the show’s welcoming POAP dining area. COOKERY DEMONSTRAT­IONS:

Heading the celebrity chef lineup on Friday is TV French favourite Jean-Christophe Novelli, backed by a trio of talented local chefs – Willie Little (Little’s Restaurant, Blairgowri­e), Willie Deans (Deans Restaurant, Perth) and George Urquhart (Blair Castle). The Friday fun at the Cookery Theatre will draw to a close with the annual cookery challenge between students from Perth College and the ladies of the SWI. SWI AND FARMHOUSE KITCHEN (also Saturday): More food to impress will be on show at both the SWI and Farmhouse Kitchen marquees where competitio­n will be fierce to produce the best home produce ranging from raspberry jam to soda scones. Visitors can also delight in the impressive showcase of homecrafts on display. RHET (also Saturday): Perth Show always has an eye on the next generation and is delighted to welcome back the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET). Throughout the two days, RHET will offer a range of hands-on activities for children including a lambing simulator, an oilseed rape press and the ever-popular Daisy – the milking cow. And the education trust hopes to set up informatio­n points around the showground detailing the different sectors and their role in Scottish agricultur­e. HEAVY HORSE – HARNESS DISPLAY

(also Saturday): For the first time, Perth Show welcomes heavy horse expert Dick Dargie from Errol with a display of horse brasses. There will also be demonstrat­ions showing how to create the ornate and colourful floral and rolled decoration­s for manes, tails and harnesses. CRAFT STANDS

(also Saturday): Craftspeop­le from all over the country gather at Perth Show to showcase and sell their impressive products. These include hand-knits, candles, woodwork, jewellery, upholstery and taxidermy. The Craft Marquee is a shopper’s paradise with gifts and delights galore! FAMILY AREA

(also Saturday): Bouncy castles, motorbikes and quad bikes, face painting, bungee bouncers and a wealth of other attraction­s to keep the youngsters entertaine­d in a safe and dedicated play area throughout the two days. There is also a wide selection of stands around the showground offering a game of chance to win everything from a keyring to a massive cuddly toy. FUN CHALLENGE:

Friday’s arena entertainm­ent draws to a close with a fun-filled competitio­n where teams pit their physical strength and mental dexterity against each other across a variety of challenges.
