Perthshire “is moving to Tories”

- Dear Editor Angus Forbes Blairgowrie

I read John Swinney’s article in your paper two weeks ago and felt I had to reply.

He talks at length about the latest general election, of course he is right on many points.

The Tories did set Perth and North Perthshire as a target seat, yes they did think they would win it.

The SNP thought the Tories would win it too, hence the last minute change of location for the launch of their election manifesto.

Sadly it was not to be and despite a lot of hard work, the SNP held the seat by 21 votes, no rational person can ever look at that and see it as a major victory for the SNP.

In fact, quite the opposite is true, the Tories reduced a near 10,000 majority to 21, I’d say thats a result to be proud of.

In his victory speech at the

election count, Pete Wishart joked that he would find those 21 people and thank them personally,

I would suggest that he looks to the 10,000 and asks them where he went wrong, only by recognising his failings and accepting them, can he ever recover from this election disaster.

Mr Swinney could learn a lesson here too, his majority has decimated at the last Scottish election, not only that, Roseanna Cunningham came within a few hundred votes of losing to the Tories and prior to that the Almond and Earn by election went to the Tories.

Perthshire, and indeed Scotland, is moving to the Tories,

The SNP just need to accept it, that’s the will of the people.
