- Johnathon Menzies

Scores of young darts players from around Scotland will descend on east Perthshire next week for the inaugural Blairgowrie Youth Darts Open.

Hosted by the Blairgowrie and District Darts Youth Academy, players under the age of 18 from across the country will compete for top honours at the Red House Hotel in Coupar Angus on Sunday, August 27.

Registration for the event is from 1111.45am, with the action on the oche getting under way in earnest at noon.

Anyone within the age range is welcome to sign-up, with organiser Daryl Stewart revealing that as many as 60 players – boys and girls – have already expressed an interest.

“I’m a wee bit competitive to be honest, and I was going to meetings and hearing about all these other academies holding tournaments and things and I wanted to show them we could do that here as well,” he said.

Daryl added: “It has been quite a bit of work, but we’ve had a lot of support from the community and local businesses in terms of sponsorship. I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed so far.”

 Meanwhile, the senior Blairgowrie and District Darts League AGM takes place at 8pm on August 30 at Wellmeadow pub The Crown.

There’s a £10 signing on fee for any teams wishing to take part in the winter league, with each team comprising eight players.

All teams wishing to take part are asked to send a representative to the meeting.
