The 148th annual gathering of the Glenisla Highland and Friendly Society takes place this Friday at the Haugh at Forter.

One of the most traditional Highland Games in the calendar, Glenisla attracts not only locals but competitors and spectators from all over the world and is renowned for its friendliness and intimate nature.

Towie and District Pipe Band will open the games at 12.30pm after which there’s an afternoon of heavy events, piping competitions, dancing and children’s races.

The famous Mount Blair Hill Race will see runners compete to beat the record time which has been held since 1992.

The hill race will once again be sponsored by Clan MacThomas, who will be attending the games ahead of their re-enactment event the following week, which is also taking place in the glen.

There will be stalls at the games selling merchandise and locally produced goods as well as a number of activities and challenges for both children and adults alike.

There will be a bar and catering on site allowing visitors to fully enjoy the day.

The Glenisla Highland and Friendly Society committee is extremely grateful to the numerous sponsors and donations from friends of the society that make the event possible.

The committee is also grateful to all the volunteers who are committed to showing up to help in preparation for the games.

Games secretary Katy Blair said: “Last year was a great games and we owe a huge thanks for the support we received from those that attended, competed, organised, sponsored and judged.

“The friendly atmosphere and wellattended local stalls and children’s activities made for a memorable day.

“We are hoping for a good turnout again this year and have received quite a lot of enquiries already regarding entry for the various competitions.

“And, of course, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather.”
