£10,000 raised by Shire law firm

-

A Perthshire law firm has raised more than £10,000 for charity by writing free wills.

Macnabs, which has an office in Blairgowrie as well as elsewhere in the region, has been taking part in the annual Will Aid scheme for the sixth time.

It sees lawyers offering to write wills for free in exchange for a charitable donation.

This year, Macnabs has raised £10,795 from this month-long fundraiser – making it the highest fundraising firm in Perthshire, and the second highest in Scotland, in relation to Will Aid.

Althea Kennedy, a partner at Macnabs, said: “At Macnabs we know that Will Aid helps such worthwhile causes and for us to be part of that and to give something back has been wonderful. Over the past few years we’ve raised more and more and have seen so many of our clients benefitting from the campaign.

“It is so important that people make a will without one the law decides how your estate is passed on, and this might not be in line with your wishes.

“We have also signed up for the 2017 campaign and appointments are filling up fast, so if you would like to make your will this November, please do get in touch. It is very easy to make a will - and it will save your family unnecessary distress at an already difficult time.”

Andrea Hay, partner and head of the private client team, added: “If you now have children or grandchildren, if you are recently divorced or separated, or have a partner but are not legally married, or if perhaps a beneficiary named in your will has deceased, then make sure your will reflects what you want to happen when you die.”

The money raised from Will Aid is split between ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save The Children, Sightsavers, Age UK, SCIAF Scotland and Trocaire in Northern Ireland.
