Blair are too hot for rivals

Rugby squad’s 16 tries over the Madras men

-

Blairgowrie proved too hot for the Fife team from the outset of this Midlands League II match.

They applied pressure from the kick-off and although Madras soaked it up they could not get out of their own 22 metre area.

Mitchell Turk was first on the scoreboard with a try, which was converted by Stephen Souter.

From the restart Liam Tweedie secured the ball and Jackson Wallace made a break, releasing Matty Michie who took the ball at pace on the halfway line to score under the posts, again converted by Souter.

A third try quickly followed after Wallace kicked the ball into touch in the corner. From the lineout the ball was quickly passed along the back line for full back Souter to score, which he then converted.

With only 15 minutes on the clock Blairgowrie secured the try bonus point after Arran Todd secured a high ball which was recycled through practically all the forwards and the backs for captain Peter Duncan to score in the corner.

Blairgowrie were now relentess in attack, with Michie once again bursting through a number of tackles to release scrum half Rory Grant, who evaded a number of tackles before passing to winger Murray Davidson to score in the corner.

From the restart Fraser Black secured possession. Murray Ormiston then made a great break and Rory Grant got the try.

Madras rallied and forced their way into the Blairgowrie 22m area but some solid defence by the home side prevented them scoring.

Having stemmed this pressure, Fraser Black made a break from defence and Todd took the ball over the try line, though it was not grounded. From the resultant scrum the ball was quickly passed out to the wing for John McLaren to score.

With the first half drawing to a close Blairgowrie went on the attack once again. Fin Ormiston burst through the defence and Black took the ball over the line then gave it to Euan Constable to score the try and make the half-time score Blairgowrie 48, Madras FPs 0.

Within a minute of the restart Blairgowrie were once again on the scoresheet with Murray Ormiston scoring under the posts, converted by Stephen Souter.

Minutes later Turk made a superb break. The ball went through the hands of Grant, Black and Jackson, who gave it back to Turk to finish the move for Blairgowrie’s tenth try of the afternoon.

The next try came from Fraser Bissett after he had started the move with a great break. It was converted by Souter and quickly followed by a try from Fin Ormiston after a good break by John McLaren.

With the visitors having only one substitute available and the Blairgowrie squad continuing to apply the pressure, Souter scored the 12th try of the afternoon before winger John McLaren added another three. Young second row player Todd got a well-deserved try in the last minute.
