Bonfire fun night

Event in Davie Park

-

Blairgowrie and Rattray residents are reminded that there will be bonfire in Davie Park this Saturday as the community marks Guy Fawkes Night.

This will be the first time in a number of years that there has been a bonfire night celebration in the town and organisers are urging everyone to come along and support the event.

As well as the bonfire there will also be a range of food and drink vendors at Davie Park for people to make the most of the evening’s festivities.

Last month community councillors launched a funding initiative to try to raise money for the town’s proposed fireworks display.

And organisers say that thanks to a good response to the appeal, there will be a fireworks display at the event as well.

Morag Young from Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council told the Blairie: “There will be fireworks, thanks to everyone’s generosity, but we are still looking for more donations to help cover costs.

“There has been a great response so far to our appeal, businesses and the local community have really stepped up which is great.

“As well as the online crowdfunding page there will be donation buckets at the bonfire on the night and any spare change - or notes - that people can give would be greatly appreciated.”

Donations will also go towards other events and displays planned for the town, including a town centre nativity scene and Christmas tree.

Morag added: “The police and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been really helpful.

“We would also like to thank John Kettles from Blast Designs for all his advice and support, East of Scotland Farmers and Davidsons Veterinary Supplies for donating pallets, Tayside Contracts who have been collecting donations of wood for us, and everyone who has already donated to the appeal.”

The fun starts at 6.45pm. Parking is available on Haugh Road and marshalls will on hand to direct traffic. The fundraising page can be found at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/brcclocalevents
