Manager Tina Gliddon said they decided to raise money for the charity after Murray Allan, the husband of takeaway owner Janette, underwent a double lung transplant.
Murray thanked everyone for their generosity and said: “Most people won’t know that if you live in Scotland your local hospital for a lung transplant and for many heart transplants is the Freeman Institute of Transplantation in Newcastle.
“FHLTA provides help and support to patients and their families during the transplant process.
“I was one of the few where everything went to plan and was home after four weeks but for many it is a long, rocky road.
“FHLTA provide basic accommodation for families during and after the transplant process.
“If this accommodation was not available, family members would be either traveling, in my case a 380-mile round trip or spending hundreds of pounds a week on hotel rooms, which most could not afford.”
