Man­ager Tina Glid­don said they de­cided to raise money for the char­ity after Mur­ray Al­lan, the hus­band of take­away owner Janette, un­der­went a dou­ble lung trans­plant.

Mur­ray thanked ev­ery­one for their gen­eros­ity and said: “Most peo­ple won’t know that if you live in Scot­land your lo­cal hos­pi­tal for a lung trans­plant and for many heart trans­plants is the Free­man In­sti­tute of Trans­plan­ta­tion in New­cas­tle.

“FHLTA pro­vides help and sup­port to pa­tients and their fam­i­lies dur­ing the trans­plant process.

“I was one of the few where ev­ery­thing went to plan and was home after four weeks but for many it is a long, rocky road.

“FHLTA pro­vide ba­sic ac­com­mo­da­tion for fam­i­lies dur­ing and after the trans­plant process.

“If this ac­com­mo­da­tion was not avail­able, fam­ily mem­bers would be ei­ther trav­el­ing, in my case a 380-mile round trip or spend­ing hun­dreds of pounds a week on ho­tel rooms, which most could not af­ford.”
